Tyrannosaurus Rex (T-Rex) and its close relatives, the tyrannosaurids, evolved in the Northern Hemisphere in the late Cretaceous Period. Skeleton, teeth and footprints of these carnivores have been found in North America and Central Asia. The strength of tyrannosaurus lay in its huge jaws, powered by muscles in its temples. In 1905, Henry Fairfield Osborn, a paleontologist at the American Museum of Natural History in New York, United States, came up with the name Tyrannosaurus Rex.
